When CMMA first began, one of its fundamental tenets was to provide care for elderly Muslims and, Alhumdulillah, that work has begun. As CMMA has grown in membership and support, it has been able to expand its offerings for elderly Muslims in two Chicagoland nursing homes. Currently, Forest View Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Itasca and Transitional Care of Arlington Heights are working with CMMA to provide care for Muslim patients under Islamic leadership. Patients at both nursing homes have access to halal meals (cooked in separate utensils), Muslim doctors and therapists, and at the Forest View nursing home, Friday prayers are being led by local Muslim students. CMMA is currently working on holding Friday prayers at more local nursing homes. As interest in care for elderly Muslims continues to grow, CMMA is also working to increase its efforts with other nursing homes in the area. At AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center GlenOaks in Glendale Heights, an interfaith prayer room has been established with Qurans, prayer rugs, Quran CDs, Qurans in Spanish and even a separate wudhu area. If you are interested in learning more about elderly Muslim care please feel free to contact us. If you’d like to volunteer with elderly Muslims or want your children to experience the benefits of helping and spending time with our elderly, please contact us at contact.cmma@gmail.com Comments are closed.
