He completed medical school in India, residency at Ravenswood Hospital, and fellowship at Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago. He has been actively involved in the community and has learned to balance his family life with caring for his patients. He has volunteered in many medical missions in war zones, disaster areas and to provide healthcare to refugees. Returned recently from medical missions to Rohingya, Puerto Rico and Yemen. Dr Sahloul has led the Syrian American Medical Society in providing medical relief to help the civilian population in Syria. He has written widely about the medical and humanitarian crisis in Syria. He has co-founded MedGlobal, a medical NGO to address global healthcare disparity and to provide medical relief in disaster areas. Dr Sahloul was awarded Chicagoan of the year for 2016 for risking his life in medical missions to Aleppo. He also received the "Heroes Among Us" award by American Red Cross, Dr Robert Kirschner's Award for Global Activism by Heartland Alliance Kovler Center 2017, the Commitment to Change Award by the National Immigration Justice Center for his commitment to human rights and and shine a light on global refugee crisis and the annual humanitarian award by UNICEF Chicago 2017.
